about

The first track on this disc was recorded live-off-the-floor, in April 2003, by Rick Erickson of Seacoast Sound in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The six songs that follow "Lisa's Song" were recorded live-off-the-floor one afternoon on analog tape by Engineer and Producer Larry Anschell, at his Turtle Recording studio in White Rock, B.C. Allison Crowe and bandmates, Dave Baird (bass), Kevin Clevette (drums), stopped into Turtle while on their way to perform in Seattle, Washington, USA for "Jammers" - fans of Pearl Jam converging from all across America and the world. The essential truth of the trio's July 2001 session is captured in these live, raw, grooves.

Please visit Lisa's Page (@ www.allisoncrowe.com/lisaspage.html ) to learn about Lisa Marie Young, the inspiration for the title song.

(NB two, earlier, EPs still in circulation, do not contain Lisa's Song ~ these recordings are titled 6 Songs, and, also, 6 Songs+)

Words and Music by Allison Crowe

I want to be the one
To say that I found you safe
And held you in my arms
I want anyone else in the world
To tell me
That they did too
And took you home

Across the field and to your door
And said, hey baby it’s cool,
There’s no reason to be scared anymore.
Took you home
And held you in, held you in, held you in.

Just stay home
Don’t come outside to play
Circumstance beyond control
I feel so helpless
Mind is racing and breaking
Me into a million pieces
Because I can’t

Take you home
Across the river and to your door
Take you home and
Cut through the darkness
You don’t have to cry anymore
Take you home
And hold you in, hold you in, hold you in.

Take you home
Across the sea and to your door
Take you home
But I’m so scared
That home isn’t here anymore

Take you home
And hold you in
Through the nightshade and under the stars
And hold you in...
Track Name: Fade Away
Fade Away
Words & Music by Allison Crowe

You
want to see me wasted
cause that's the only time I'd kneel before you and
you would rather
shut your eyes and fly so far above me
that you don't even have to say you were ever there

open up your eyes
and watch me fade away
cause I'm drowning myself again

you
well I don't think you understand this
I don't even think you could ever come close and

you
I know you don't understand
what your absence does to me

I
don't know what to believe when I see
your vacant eyes tear away what little faith
I ever had in anyone and I
shouldn't have let you pull me in
and watch you walk away

I never wanted to fly
without dying before
and I believed that you were there to
save me from myself
but I was just dreaming

Midnight
Words & Music by Allison Crowe

At midnight I open up my door
and I say,
"hey, well why don't you just go and see what happens then?"

and I don't know exactly what it is I'm trying to prove
all I know
is this is just what works for me right now

But then I come back down... maybe in a minute, or two...
and you're already gone.

And I know that I can be cruel
and I don't always have a reason for it
you could ask me over and over again... and all I'd say is
"NOTHING"

but I guess you saw me sitting on the road
in the middle of a rain-storm crying
and I still don't know why
it seemed like a good idea at the time...

In my soul
is water earth and air and fire
all the things that make us whole
and fuel all of your desire

but water can drown
and earth can quake
and fire can burn you out...
and I guess you know that, well...

I know you know that
wind
can blow you away

Crayon and Ink
Words and music composed by Allison Crowe

The Arctic surrounded my cold wooden room
I don't think I've ever felt so warm
these waters brought back to me
what I reluctantly believed
and I watched as the 4 corners gave way
to the ice and the life and the death

and the warmth
and they were all joined together

In that one instant I could
feel you crushing me
but I didn't want to remember what it felt like

to be alive
and still feel so cold

in crayon and ink
what I understood the least
were these words not spoken
out of fear of the law
or self sacrifice

and I never thought that confirmation
would come in to play
and these words were never going to be on
the tip of your tongue

and I was locked in a place
that I'd never seen before
without windows but
with curtains hanging on the walls
and I was forced to believe
all I had
I had to self-deprivate
and I was proved wrong
when you came back

in a room filled with nothing
this table looked away from me
a kick to your foot and a twist of your head
and I saw that you were afraid
but if you think that I was just being cold
you don't know how scared I was

in crayon and ink
what I understood the least
were these words not spoken
out of fear of the law
or self sacrifice

and I never thought that confirmation
would come in to play
and these words were never going to be on

Dark Blue
Words & Music by Allison Crowe

Circle around the ocean
target where I'll drown
spotlight find me drifting
bloated and upside-down

floating away from prison
shattering my shell
finally getting to escape
floating away from my hell

and in my soul
you are my after life
that last face I'll see before
my dying light

and even though I taste your tears
you rid me of all mine
and even though I hate this place
I could never leave you behind

I see you

and in this a whirlpool
and in this a maze
an unending battle
in a tireless haze

now, raise your swords in fear
and forget your tears
lashing out in anger
filtering through your fears

I see you
I know that
I feel you
and want...

and so now I'll leave this
as my last request
don't you ever forget...
Track Name: Scared
Scared
Words & Music by Allison Crowe

We do not see
So blindly forgotten
The pain unspoken
Torturous mystery

Why can't you say what has been done to you
you are not wrong and you should not...

Why do you stand
for silence when you know you're screaming
anger floats so deeply below the surface
why do you carry this on your shoulders, you did not create this

and I am not afraid to say

I am not wrong and I am not dirty
I will not wait for karma to take its course
Now I am not afraid and I am not worthless no
I am not wrong
No I am not

I am not ashamed of this
I am taking you on, and
I am not scared of you
Track Name: Philosophy
Philosophy

Words & Music by Allison Crowe

Rain has always fallen silently in my mind
and its built up so high that I'll drown in my own faults
and when I stop breathing maybe I'll be taken to a place
where I can be of some use
now tell me baby, is this not like me

I can't be here now and I don't want your eyes reaching mine
I don't understand why all you had you had to leave behind

I can't stay here now
and I wish my plans were only residential
so I will tell you now that baby I am not unique

so I will empty my veins so my blood can no longer run cold
and my voice will cease shrieking so you can't disagree

I will try to fly
and if I don't make it at least I'll know that I
didn't have to watch myself fail again
well I have got to go

I can walk into the sea
and open my eyes so I can't see
and I can feel you rush in to me
and I am drowning
and I am free
